New Players - Biographies
We’d like to mention our three new players who’ve recently joined the band, as we work towards the Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championship on Sunday 20 Februa
Firstly, Henry Hart joins us on BBb Bass. Currently in his third year of studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, he grew up playing in bands in the East Midlands. During his teens he played with Youth Brass 2000 and played alongside fellow Bass player Matt for multiple competitions - including their European Brass Band Association Youth section-winning set. He took a banding hiatus for his first three years of RWCMD studies, excited to be back in the banding scene with BTM!
Secondly, Jennifer Lane comes in on the front row. A loyal bandsperson, she started playing the cornet in her local brass band (Chepstow Town Band) when she was 7 years old. Jenny then joined Bream Silver Band at the age of 17 and played there for 15 years (the last 6 years as Principal Cornet).
Finally, Evan Smith will be playing 2nd Euphonium with the band. On a “borrow” from Blaenavon Town Band whilst they re-build, Evan started on French Horn and played in various youth orchestras and wind bands. He joined Pontypool Brass on cornet after leaving college, eventually settling on euphonium. Evan joined Blaenavon Town Band in 1999 as youth tutor and First Baritone, and subsequently moved onto euphonium. He’s an integral member of the Blaenavon Town Band setup, and currently works hard to encourage the junior and youth players of Blaenavon.
