Martyn Patterson Joins BTM

The BTM Band would like to announce the immediate signing of euphonium player Martyn Patterson.

Jeff Hutcherson (BTM’s Musical Director) commented: “First and foremost, I’d like to say what a fantastic job Tim Jones has done in the Solo Euphonium seat since switching from Solo Baritone a few years ago. However, Tim has told me it’s time to take a step back from the Solo Euphonium seat due to family & work commitments.

BTM are improving rapidly as our young players develop and mature - but being able to bring in a player of Martyn’s knowledge, know-how and proven ability at the very top of British banding will make him an important asset as the band continues to improve and show ambition”.

Martyn himself stated: “I joined BTM when I was 15 years old, so I owe the band a lot as it’s where I did my apprenticeship as a player. It’s great to be back to help them hopefully return to Championship Section, and I’m excited to be a part of this great band”.

Martyn’s debut performance with the band will be at the upcoming Welsh Regional Championships at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall on Saturday 19 March, where the band will compete in Section 1 to try and qualify for the Sections 1-4 Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain - and with the ultimate aim of returning to the Championship Section in 2023.

Our thanks go to Evan Smith from Blaenavon Town Band Official, who helped BTM out on 2nd Euphonium at the recent Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championships.
